Day 4
Mirror selfie while waiting for my lousy hair straightener to heat up. This reminds me I need to get another mini-straightener because the one we have sucks so bad. You leave it there for an hour it won't even be as hot as the bigger one we have at home. Plus my heart dies every time I use it on my hair because I hear my hair strands crying. (ok this is one lengthy complain about a straightener that isn't even the focus thing about the photo)
Headed downstairs for breakfast and we were late. I think the jap coordinators can't stand us cause we always late in the morning...
Then we left for sightseeing. I think it's called Nijo Castle (opens booklet and check the name of the place)
It's so darn gorgeous no?????????? So unreal. Pictures with no human beings in it is always nice.
Second stop, we visited the manga museum. There was definitely a fair share of excited and bored people. I belong to the bored group. I'm sorry, I'm just not into the while manga thing I know absolutely nothing related to manga. Unless pokemon counts? Even so I don't read the books. So i can't appreciate a single thing there. HA HA HA
Had out lunch at some local restaurant and it's good! Mix of western and japanese cuisine.
(We need the pictures of food they are very important)
SCHOOL VISIT!!!!!!
Kyoto Prefectural Hokuryo Senior High School.
It was quite funny when we arrived because we reached way earlier than the supposed time. So when we were there, the students were still in their classes. I think they were supposed to be welcoming us when we arrived so that apparently failed. We were waiting for them to end class. But it was fine! We killed time taking pictures anyway!
Visited their classes! We had english and music class. And I need to mention just how amazing their music classes were because all of them sang like angels.
Gathered together and had a chat with more students. We got split eventually because those whose hoe stay family aren't students of the high school left to meet their family. The rest of us stayed behind and toured the school! It was fun roaming around with hasyimah ping and ignatius.
I was super excited yet very nervous to meet my homestay family. First was because of the different culture so i was super careful with what i said and did (I don't want to offend anyone on accident!) But everything turned out better than i expected!
First night dinner with the family, we had tempura fest.
And slept on futons. I'l choose futon over hotel beds anytime. Seriously, it was one of the best and most comfortable night! (Although I woke up with a bruised back, I have no idea how...)
Hi Madoka! She is such a sweetheart and cutiepie.
Shower time/ Bath time.
Ok, let me briefly explain. The water is green only because they added a bath ball. The bathtub is super cool like its a heated tub so the water will always be warm. In a japanese family, they share the same tub and water, only draining the water after the last person is done. So your shower should begin with you getting showered at the shower area, get cleaned, soaped shampooed wash it off, and once you're done, you get yourself into the tub and relax. I was told this is how it's supposed to be. I freaked out because I mean everyone sharing the same water?!?!??!!?? That's enough to scare me.
I know everyone that enters the tub is supposingly clean so it doesn't really mattered la. But it isn't something we do in SG right. Here, we drain the water once we are done and the next person will fill the tub again (super waste water)
Fortunately, I was the first to shower. Meaning no one entered the tub yet.
Ok, i didn't enter in the end anyway... But it was such an eyeopener!
Grandpa served us icecream at 11pm aww so nice of him.
DAY 5
Breakfast the next morning was such a spread too!
And we were talking about the tea ceremony we had the previous day, then grandma went ahead and brewed such ocha and matcha. They are so nice!!!
We left after breakfast for temple hopping around their around. I don't remember a single name for the temples we visited but they were all so pretty.
I LOVE DAISIES
Their entrance ticket. So much effort put into the tickets. (Why japan why???????? I love them so much and everything they do they go the extra mile.)
So many kitties. They were all so skinny tho, so heartbreaking.
The last temple/ shrine for the day. It built without nails meaning only wood. How is it possible right and it's so nice and sturdy.
(i am vanessa part 3)
See i told you, pictures without human beings are always 10 times prettier.
We requested ramen for lunch and we got it.
Their ramen was about $5 but it's definitely the best ramen I've ever eaten. We had to queue for it because the store was a neighbourhood favourite.
Headed back home to rest and chill and charge my phone. We waited for the mom and madoka to arrive before heading to some kyoto studio thing. It's like a mini theme park. They have haunted house, some ninja mysterious house and trick eye museum!!
Watched some performance. It was cool, all the stunts. But other than that, they were speaking in japanese, so I can't understand the story behind.
The family. Nicest people. I do miss them.
Clara was helping me snap a picture and Madoka ran in to join hahah. What is she doing pretending to be a dead person?!
They paid for us to enter the trick eye museum too.
Then we popped by their theatres to see how different it was from ours! It's very spacious ad luxurious and of course their movie tickets were pricier too la.
Oyaku-don.
And after dinner, they brought us to uniqlo and daiso. The both us spent like crazy. Look at the amount we bought
I was snapping my feet along the way as well and I made this collage I thought it was pretty cool right. My favourite got to be the one i was holding madoka's hand.
To be continued...
